We recently developed an app for the Blackberry/ Android platform to be able to scan QR codes. This app was primarily targeted to the entertainment business where a user will be able to scan tickets validity LIVE. The status of the tickets (valid / invalid) is reflected immediately and the time of the entry from any location is updated on the server LIVE.
This application however finds use in various sectors in today’s world.
What is a QR code?
A QR code is a kind of a barcode which means ” Quick Response”. Essentially, a QR code can hold much more data from the traditional barcodes which is the reason why it has been preferred in the marketing world these days. While a normal 1D barcode will hold only 20 digits, a QR code can hold upto 6000 digits (vertically and horizontally).
Since the QR code can carry actual data, its inevitable use comes in decoding it to a web URL. This ways, once you read the code using a scanner (on your mobile phone), you can re-direct the user to the specific page.

QR codes will be the future of Marketing.
Since QR codes can carry this enormous amount of data, this becomes a perfect marketing tool to retail customers. Imagine walking into a electronics store to buy a refrigerator and most of us get confused about the models and specifications etc. The manufacturers can actually imprint the QR labels on each of them so that the user will be able to look at the complete specifications of the same on the manufacturer’s website. Moreover, more options like -
1. Getting to know when the model has been introduced / stopped in the market.
2. People’s comments and ratings about the item.
3. Special schemes / rates during festive seasons etc.
4. Other similar items available
All this has been made possible from the introduction of such technology.
Imagine walking into a store and knowing much better than the sales person standing there !!
